Ask the Designer – selecting a coordinating duvet.

A customer wrote to us today asking for our input – which of course, we are always happy to offer.

Hi,
I saw your bedding on your website and was interested in buying a king size Duvet cover for my bed. The wall color in the room is biscuit, the bed frame is mahogany, and the bed skirt, and pillow shams are taupe and gold. I’m sending some photographs of the bed and adjoining bath, just to give you an idea of what the rooms look like. I liked the ” Kilim noir” print you have. Do you think it will look good with my colors? Do you have any other suggestions? Please do respond.

Vidula Agtey.

Here are the pics Vidula sent us.

Vidula – I love your bedroom colors. So restful and serene, it must make for a perfect end-of-day retreat! You mentioned a partiality towards the Kilim Noir print, and while that is a sumptuous print, I am offering a couple of alternate prints as solutions.

(But don’t worry ~ I have a way to bring a little Kilim Noir splendor to your room at the end of the post :-))

Both options shown below work on the premise of a monochromatic color scheme – colors that range from creamy ivory and taupe to gold and deep brown. Colors that are defined as “neutrals”. Accessories in amber caramell-y tones and wall art and decor that have the “glam” factor will work well with either option.

Option 1: A soft, soothing spa like retreat

Vanilla Glacé I think will be a perfect match. It was almost custom made for a bedroom with your colors….soft taupe, white, golden amber. The dark mahogany of your bed frame is an ideal canvas for your lovely pillow shams and bedskirt – after all mahogany is a deeper, more intense shade of brown and taupe. At the same time the frame provides a striking contrast to the softer hues of this print.

Here is a collage that will help you visualize your bedroom with a Vanilla Glacé duvet. See how harmonious and coherent the color palette looks? You may never want to leave your bedroom…….

Option 2: A deep, cozy bedroom haven

Since you are drawn to Kilim Noir, I am guessing you like vibrant colors? If the pristine pure white beauty of Vanilla Glacé is too mellow, you could consider our brown chocolatey print – For the Love of Chocolate. Perfectly in sync with the mahogany bed frame, the vanilla hearts in the print will coordinate with the gold patterned shams and bedskirt.

Now here is a fun way to incorporate some Kilim Noir – accent pillows! Quite a rage in bedroom decor these days, toss one, two, three – as many as you desire – on the bed.

The great thing about accent pillows is that they do not have to conform exactly to the color palette. As long as there is a common color – (in this case gold), accent pillows are a fantastic way to get creative and fun! With your palette, you could pick a combination of pillows from one or all 4 prints shown below – and you’ll still have your duvet be the center of attention.

  1. I do like the Vanilla Glacé with the paint color in the bedroom and the existing bed skirt and pillow shams. My only concern was that the Duvet Cover was not washable- just Drycleanable-

    • You are right Vidula. The gold overlay that makes the print so unique and beautiful does require special care…as is the case with anything unique and beautiful! 🙂
