Today we’ll take a look at some great fall decorating ideas for the living room, inspired by the oak brown and goldenrod tones of our Waltz of the Vines hand printed fabric. The living room is one of the first places I want to “cozy-up” in my house… I want it to be an inviting, warm destination for family and friends.
The tones of this the Waltz of the Vines cotton print are a lovely backdrop for autumn decor, but (bonus!) – they work well in summer too – just accessorize differently to bring out the brighter tones.
In my mind, the season of fall is primarily about natural beauty, and so the approach I take to decorating at this time of year is distinctly organic. Are you a crafty DIY’er? Then you’ll most definitely adore this DIY magnolia wreath – isn’t it lovely? The almost golden tones of the leaves would look stunning against a variety of entry door colors. Of course, wreaths don’t have to be relegated to a door – hang over a mantel, in a grouping on the wall, or use horizontally as a centerpiece!
You can see how well the scrolled vine design in this unique curtain plays into fall themes… If you really want to make a statement at your window, hang the Waltz of the Vines curtain from a hand made tree branch curtain rod! (click for tutorial)
Now of course, I wouldn’t be nearly as excited for fall if I couldn’t snuggle up in a soft, cozy blanket – and these throws are perfect for our fall living room design. The muted throws from West Elm will bring out the neutral undertones of the print for a quiet soothing effect. On the other hand the brilliantly colored throws from Company C will highlight the fall colors….the golden yellow, the aqua blue and the sage green. (Don’t you just want to take a nap on the couch now?)
Use harvest related pieces to create a tactile autumn experience. These faux pomegranates from Pottery Barn are not from your mother’s plastic fruit basket!! I think they are amazing. More amazing, though, are real pomegranates, which actually last quite a while in a display. (If you time it right, you can eat them too!)
I really like this natural dark candelabra from Viva Terra. Interestingly, it’s made out of driftwood, which makes it an exquisite accessory for the Waltz of the Vines, with its hint of the nautical.
Throw pillow covers are one of the quickest and most economical ways to make over a living room. Styled in this blue velvet chair, the sky blue tones in Waltz of the Vines pop. Toss on a rich chocolate brown sofa, and the fall colors resonate. If you’re looking for more of a pop and dazzle, then the yellows of these cushions from Company C will bring the golden warmth of the sun right into you home.
All the gorgeous colors of the print are echoed in this fabulous rug from Pottery Barn – the soft yellows, muted greens and bursts of rust. Available in various sizes to suit your budget, it will add just the right amount of color. Need some artwork on the walls to liven things up? I fell in love with this vibrant print from Etsy, a stunning photograph of sunrise on a beach.
Finally, consider a corner or table accent of these (so cool!) lighted willow branches. Talk about ambiance! Maybe I’ll get some of these in time for my crafty-party.
Lets put it all together
