Create a Unique, Romantic Dining Room on Valentine’s Day

by Heidi on Jan 17, 13

There’s only a little more than a month left ’till that sweetest of days, Valentine’s Day, so for the next few weeks here at Saffron Marigold, we’ll be taking you through ideas for creating romantic settings in your home.

Of course, our focus will be on hand made, unique and global elements – for a home and romance as creative and individual as you are.

Ivy Lace White Cotton Napkin

Our 100% cotton Ivy Lace tablecloth and napkins are the inspiration for this collection.  Their bright white, hand printed design is classic, yet unusual, and creates the perfect backdrop for red and pink Valentine’s Day colors.  This print, like all of ours, was designed by Anisha Ghosh, and is created using fair trade practices in Rajasthan, India.

Today’s menagerie will include, for your inspiration, several amazing desserts (isn’t it normal to want several desserts?), and two great DIY ideas for table decoration.

Cream Filled Strawberries, Joy of Baking

First, the desserts: Raspberry Chocolate Tart and Cream Filled Strawberries.  And yes, the desserts are first for a reason. :) These berry delights are both memorable Valentine’s Day treats. While they seem extravagant, in actuality, both are pretty simple to prepare.  Plus, if you choose the Raspberry Tart, you’ll learn how to make ganache – and that is exciting.  Click on the images for recipes and tutorials.

If natural and organic is your style, then the burlap place mats with a felt heart will be exactly what you want. I’ve also been seeing these gorgeous, Scandinavian style cut felt placemats for a while now, and I just know they’re “makeable”.  If you’re interested in trying to create a couple, I’ll point you to this tutorial on making felt snowflakes… same concept, right?  Using a rotary cutter is the key.  Let me know (with pictures) if you attempt one!

The final idea for today is to include one of these versatile and unique chalkboard trays in your Valentine’s decor.  The hand done tray on the left is available from Her Majesty’s Pug, and the tray on the right is an example of one you can make yourself by following this tutorial.

Here are a few of my favorite romantic quotations if you’re looking for something mushy to write on your tray…

  • “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine”. - Song of Solomon
  • “Love is the strongest force the world possesses, and yet it is the humblest imaginable”. - Mahatma Gandhi
  • “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you”. – Winnie the Pooh

If you’d like to see more of what Saffron Marigold has to offer, you can find our high-quality, fair trade table linens here.  Here are a few examples to whet your appetite…
