Sweet Valentine’s Decor and Dessert Ideas

by Heidi on Jan 16, 13

Valentine’s Day is a wonderful excuse to get out of our routines, and take a moment (or an hour) to celebrate romance and affection with those we love.  Since we’re getting out of our routines, anyways, why not have an “outside the box” Valentine’s Day?  No need to stick with traditional pinks and reds….  Today, we’re offering a Valentine’s Day that’s a bit Blue, a bit Boho, a bit Beach and a LOT Chocolate.

What do you love from this collection?

Hand Painted Porcelain Hearts by Harriet Damave

Our decor is inspired by our indigo hand printed Pacific Blue tablecloth.  This is a special piece indeed, as after it is richly dyed, the navy color is discharged from the fabric, leaving the natural ivory wave pattern in it’s wake.  All of this is hand done by an elite group of artisans who have mastered the challenging craft.

The Pacific Blue tablecloth is the perfect foundation for lively, bright colors.  When I was sourcing for this post, I knew I’d go directly to Anthropolgie, as they have one of the most delightful collections of bright, unique dinnerware around.  You couldn’t not feel happy while under the charms of our deep blue cotton cloth plated with these cheery dishes!

While bold red roses would truly look amazing on this table, I always lean toward more free flowing, boho style arrangements.  There’s much more latitude here, as you can play with whatever strikes you at your flower market.  I think the secret here is to be unafraid of mixing lots of bold, bright colors.  (Not unlike layering Indian textiles!)

Add to your Pacific Blue collection with these saturated Navy napkins. They are beautiful with the tablecloth, but would also be striking with any neutral, natural textile. Cotton napkins are just so nice – they absolutely set your table apart, and say “this is a special event”!

I promised Chocolate, and here you have it.  Last but SO not least!  It’s only breakfast time for me right now, but I’ll tell you what – I’m considering one of those cupcakes as a viable option!

Cute things ~ I love the variation of colors and use of blue for Valentine’s Day. My favorite has to be that Chocolate Raspberry Mousse Cake! It looks really delicious :)

I totally agree about the mousse! Yum. That recipe is from a blogger, too. Isn’t her photography nice? And yes, it’s nice to get a little variation in the palette for Valentine’s Day. :)
