Inspiration for Starry Nights:
Starry Nights draws its inspiration from the endlessly fascinating night sky. With its wondrous canopy of stars, the awe inspiring grandeur of the night sky has inspired poets, philosophers, and dreamers for centuries. Replete with moonlit indigo hued star-studded skies, the Starry Nights design is our attempt to capture the majestic beauty of the night skies. The border, with its dreamy floating cloud symbolism further enhances the night sky imagery. The Starry Nights range of furnishings is printed using only natural indigo dyes and employs the extremely laborious "Double Dabu" resist printing technique.

Dabu Printing: In this the wood blocks are used to apply the resist (unlike in traditional block printing where wood blocks are used to apply the dye); usually a paste of mud, gum and sawdust, to the fabric. The fabric is then dyed by immersing the sun dried mud printed cloth in a cauldron of dye. This process is repeated for every color in the design. The term "double" or "triple" dabu indicates the number of times the fabric is thus processed. Finally the mud resist is washed off to reveal the design. Typically some dye penetrates under the resist and results in the characteristic "veining" usually associated with resist printed Batiks.
