For this week’s Summer Series post, I’m highlighting Saffron Marigold’s Memories of Shalimar bedding. The fabric is a soft meadow green, hand printed with a bright gold floral design, accented by chocolate browns and dark navy blue.
The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of shimmery light greens and golds is the work of Gustav Klimt, and of course, his quintessential painting, “The Kiss”. I love how this painting, and the Memories of Shalimar print, are able to convey glamour and sophistication as well as a light, organic feeling.
Memories of Shalimar Bedding
I’ve put together a few ideas to help you create a fresh summer-sophisticate look for your bedroom, starting with a duvet, shams and throw pillows in the Memories of Shalimar collection. The soft cotton duvet will feel perfect for summer evenings…plump it up with a light comforter on cooler nights, or use it alone as a spread when it’s hot.
Coordinating Sheets
Amazon offers some great sheeting that will work perfectly with Memories of Shalimar. Chocolate brown, bright gold and deep blue all play off tones in our duvet. These sheets are all 100% cotton, just like our Saffron Marigold bedding! (Note: the Wamsutta sheets are not a set, so you will need to purchase pieces separately.)
Lighting
Add an unexpected element to your bedroom, such as a woven seagrass lamp or shade. Bringing in a natural and organic piece like this creates a good tension with items that are more “slick”. I like the look of seagrass in our green-gold color scheme… it highlights all the right tones in a very subtle way.
Wall Treatments
One wall, or a portion of a wall, accented with a gold toned wallcovering will tie your space together nicely. Just be sure to use a paper that is soft and organic, even if it is metallic. You don’t want to get too shiny or the look will be thrown off.
Here’s a low-cost way to reference Klimt and our Shalimar bedding in your summer space… Gather an assortment of frames from tag sales, around the house, etc., and give them new coats of paint in gold tones. The circles and squares in varied scale really do bring to mind the geometric/organic mix Klimt perfected. Simple, economical and lovely!
Inspirations
As a treat, or as inspiration, or just for your “places I’d like to go” list, I wanted to share a couple lovely images of Shalimar Gardens in Kashmir. This is, after all, the place that inspired our print, “Memories of Shalimar“. You can see the green-golds at play as well as that wonderful balance of tight design and natural beauty.
Summer is a great time to make some changes around the house… it seems there’s a little more down time, and the pace is conducive to creativity. Hope you’ve enjoyed the ideas for a green and gold bedroom!
Putting it All Together
Let me know if you do any creative makeovers with our Memories of Shalimar print. It would be fun to hear from you. Have a good one!

Would love to see a print of green and pink as well. Your products are such a pleasure! Would love to use your materials as wall “paper”. Just beautiful!
Thanks so much, Rosemarie!
I like the pink and green idea, as well. I’m sure Anisha would design something exquisite in those colors!
And the wall covering concept…. nice! There are lots of great ideas for using fabric as art that could inspire a Saffron Marigold wall piece… Let us know if you do anything like that.
Take care,
Heidi
