Fall Series: Red Turkish Bath

by Heidi on Aug 31, 12

When I came across this image of an eastern bath on Design Manifest, I fell in love.  Bright natural light, the amazing chandelier, rich gold plastered walls – even the snuggly Turkish robe all come together in one word:  ahhhh…..  Since I’ve got our Fall Series on my mind, I immediately thought of these colors, and the feel of this space alongside our rich Ruby Kilim print.

Not only do the colors – persimmon, ochre, chocolate –  tease out the tones of fall, but because they are earthy and natural, they are beautiful year round.  Let’s take a look at our anchor piece, the Ruby Kilim shower curtain, and bath accessories that can bring this look to your home.

Shower Curtain

Hanging a shower curtain is absolutely the quickest way to make a big impact in your bath.  Ours are fair trade, hand printed and quality 100% cotton.  Immediately, your space is elevated out of the ordinary.  The colors and the motif of Ruby Kilim are inspired by ancient Turkish kilim patterns, and the cloth looks as though it could have been brought home from a far away market in another land.

Mirrors

Once your shower curtain is hung, it’s time to look for a few more accessories that will round out the global look in your space.  Mirrors are mainstays of the bathroom, but they don’t have to look like a rectangular medicine cabinet.  If you have a built in mirror, perhaps you can add one with a bit more interest to another wall.  If you don’t have a built in, make an unusual mirror a focal point.

Bath Towels

Bath towels are a necessity, of course, but because of their colors, they are wonderful functional design elements.  Here are a few suggestions for towels that will work with Ruby Kilim.  If you plan to go out shopping for coordinating towels, I recommend purchasing a swatch of our fabric to bring with you.  These are large and well priced, and will help you feel assured you’re getting the right color.

Storage

A good amount of storage is required in the bath, and since most of this is visible, it needs to tie into the design as well.  For this bath, I chose pieces that have an organic sense (natural fibers, patina finish, earthy colors) , and a global feel.  Accessories like this are just plain fun to shop for.  These could even be items that you collect as you travel!

Sensories

Another fun element of the bath are the sensory pieces we use for bathing,  adorning, or just plain luxuriating.  Essential oils, which can be applied to the skin, to bath water, or to a diffuser will add to the exotic, natural sense of your space.  Unique candle holders, and wonder-working body washes  round out the bath with function and beauty.  (Note:  I like to choose naturally made fragrances that smell great – of course – and that have pretty packaging, too)!
