L’amour Moroccan style!

Saffron Marigold - Updated: October 30, 2018

Its wedding season and a reception with a theme is always fun and memorable. And if you are the lucky one, or are helping plan a wedding for someone, then have you thought about a colorful, exotic Moroccan themed wedding reception?

We’re talking Moroccan tents, floor seating with cushions and hanging lanterns, but the best approach would be to blend Oriental style with Western comfort.

Moroccan Wedding decor, I imbue you I do

Table Linens

“Its ingrained in Moroccans that you eat with your eyes as well as with your mouth”.

Morocco comes to life in our Sultan’s Palace table linen collection – rectangular tablecloths, round tablecloths, table runners and cotton napkins. With colors like deep pink evocative of lush velvet lined palace interiors, ivory reminiscent of smooth marble floors, turquoise to remind you of cool water fountains, ocher hues like those found in brass lanterns…..the print is as much feast to the eyes as the food on the table is to your palate!

Adorn your table with runners down the center. Consider layering and adding depth by using a basic solid shade tablecloth in one of the print colors as a backdrop and Sultan’s Palace tablecloth over that. Sprinkle flower petals, confetti or something more personal to the wedding couple on top of the table.

Opulent and rich are key words when choosing a color palette for a Moroccan inspired evening. Gold and jeweled tones serve as accent colors in table details such as lanterns, charger plates, and place card holders.

Place Settings

Serve up some mint tea in these gorgeous tea glasses like they do in Marrakech. Mint tea is a staple of Moroccan lifestyle with the tea ceremony being one of the most important aspects of Moroccan hospitality.

Mix and match the lavender, pink, purple and turquoise charger plates from Koyal, a catering wholesaler.

The sparkling round or rectangular crystal picture frames from Bellenza.com do double duty as placeholders as well as wedding favors for your guests. Tie a pretty ribbon around each one and tuck a lovely photo of the bride and groom with a personal greeting enclosed in each frame.

Centerpieces

If you have Morocco, can lanterns be far behind? In addition to hanging lanterns illuminating the venue, use them as centerpieces. Light a votive in them, surround with deep richly colored florals and your table will resonate with warmth, color and excitement.

Roses – in rich luscious jeweled colors will heighten the exotic vibe you’re trying to create. Easy to find and place in vases, they make an impact like no other flower. Amber hued tea glasses can also serve as vases here.

Silver candle stands which reflect and throw light all around can be used to hold flowers too. Hydrangeas in purples and pinks which are in full bloom right now, will work beautifully and really set off the Sultan’s Palace table linens.

Cakes

What everyone waits for – the wedding cake! You can choose here to simplify and pick a classic wedding tiered cake but with the same rich colors as our print in the icing and fondant, or really play along with the theme and go with an absolutely amazing cake which replicates a Moroccan minaret.

Yet another easy yet effective option is using a cake topper to emphasize the theme or sentiment. Chapeau de Gateau designs cake toppers individually created and handmade from the finest quality Mokuba Japanese ribbon to personalize the theme, colour, and detail of your event

Get the decor right

If I had you at the first image, and that is the look you want to achieve,  you can do that effectively with lengths of gorgeous tulle or organza fabric. Inexpensive and very affordable at the Fancy Fabric Store, Etsy, it will provide great bang for your buck. Available in a myriad of colors, pick jewel toned ones that will highlight Sultan’s Palace and tie yards and yards of it around pillars, posts and columns.

Make bows and tie them on the backs of chairs, layer them on the tables, if your venue is outdoors use them as swags and canopies. Add Sultan’s Palace curtain panels as accent pieces in between and you have a sure fire winner! This look combined with glittering lanterns will be irresistible!
