Welcome to Saffron Marigold - our cozy boutique, home to an exquisite collection of exotic, unique, designer handcrafted, India inspired Bedding and Linens. This site was born out of a desire to give the discerning customer a choice. I wanted to offer an opportunity to own home furnishings that have a story to tell, that have been created by human hands, that are unique yet affordable, and that somehow have imprinted upon its fibers, generations of skill, culture, and tradition.

Although not a designer by education (I have a Masters degree in Human Resources), I surrendered to my love for Indian textiles and decided to pursue it as my vocation. After traveling extensively through out India researching various traditional handcrafted textiles, and building relationships with several artisans, we launched Saffron Marigold in 2005. In Saffron Marigold I wanted to mirror the philosophy behind the slow clothes movement wherein textiles are created with an eye to safeguarding traditional crafts and the human impact on production rather than mechanized mass production. You are probably wondering what "Saffron" and "Marigold" have in common with home furnishings. Let me explain... in India the Marigold is used as a flower of offering and that is precisely what this site is - an offering of one of India's oldest textile arts, hand block printing, applied to a distinctive range of home furnishings that will adorn your home. Saffron is a spice that is prized in Indian cuisine for the rich golden hue and the delicate aroma it imparts. It is so treasured that it is used with reverence, and is considered the ultimate garnishing. Similarly, while home furnishings aren't the brick and mortar of a dwelling space, when chosen with care, they breathe color, identity, and life into living spaces.

The products found on Saffron Marigold also have sound karma. Now how many websites promise you that? We design our products, and have them printed and put together in a couple of artisan owned studios in India. While Saffron Marigold is a for profit small business, it is run out of two home offices (one in Petaluma, California and the other in Pune, India), we are fully committed to arts and crafts revival and fair trade as a means to safeguard traditional crafts, create employment, and promote economic self-sufficiency. To this end we follow the most stringent guidelines while selecting the artisans we work with, and only source from those who love what they do, are proud of what they do, and honor and pay fair wages to the artisans they employ. All our products are printed on superior grade, soft 100% cotton with either vegetable dyes or non-toxic eco-friendly fabric dyes. We try to keep close to nature even in our choice of embellishments, favoring coconut shell buttons over the ubiquitous zipper!
