Sometimes a few foundational updates are all you need to create a new feeling in your space. Today’s Valentine’s Day Ideas give inspiration for “new basics” in the bedroom that will add comfort and style for years to come.
I’ve selected lovely pieces because they’re hand made, and fair trade. These are our values at Saffron Marigold, and we know many of you share them!
This room is built around our Ruby Kilim collection, a rich, deep red print complemented by tan and black, created using an intricate, historical block printing technique. For the bedroom, this print is available in duvets, bedspreads, quilted bedspreads, euro shams and pillow covers. All are hand printed on high quality 100% cotton, and are made using fair trade practices.
A few velvety, chocolate brown pillows, like these from Aviva Stanoff, New York, will tap into the rich exotic look of Ruby Kilim. The collections from Aviva Stanoff are hand made in Brooklyn by a small group of artisans. Organic prints on the fabrics are made by pressing natural objects into the fabric and small batch dying.
Now, few things are better than a wonderful set of sheets… crisp, yet soft; cottony and smooth. This set from Coyuchi will certainly meet expectations. Coyuchi is a smaller textile company out of Northern California which focuses on using high grade organic cottons, and fair trade practices.
Valentine’s Day is in two weeks, and that may seem like short time for really recreating your bedroom – by adding a headboard, for instance. However, there are so many great ideas for simple, easy DIY headboards, I’d bet that a few of you could pull this off! I particularly like the idea of upcycling an old door into an architecturally rich headboard. Many communities have access to Habitat’s ReStore, which is a great resource for pieces like this.
OK, I know I said this post was about “foundational basics”, and pieces that can be used for “years to come”. So why a chocolate cocktail? Because I realized – with great alarm – that I have yet to really address chocolate in my Valentine’s Day Ideas series! This is so unacceptable! Here, then, is an idea for chocolate in the bedroom. Of course, it won’t really work to have melty truffles in our new white sheets, but I think a luxurious, dark, drinky-drink will work just fine… and be a wonderful surprise for the person with whom you share your bed!
Enjoy your week, and use your creativity!
