Design a Summer Bath

by Heidi on Jun 4, 12

Designing a new summer look in your bathroom can be easy as 1,2,3.  Since bathrooms are typically smaller spaces, a little bit of design has a big impact.  Today, we’ll bring in a cottony French Provencal shower curtain, add bright bath linens and accessories, and voilà!  We have a refreshing summer bath!

Our Inspiration – Morning Dew

I love this 100% cotton shower curtain for summer style.  The pale yellow is sweet and romantic, and the diadem design pops off the ground with bright cobalt, teal, and just a hint of tangerine.  Although one could go completely soft and feminine with this print, I’ve decided to work off of the brighter accents, and develop some flair Français!

Bath Linens -

Start with these cheerful cotton Frajen bath towels from Ikea .  If you have muted walls, colorful bath towels and an elegant towel bar are a quick way to create a new dynamic in your bath.

Shower Curtain -

Here is our Morning Dew shower curtain.  It is made of high quality 100% cotton, and completely hand printed.  All of our prints are designed by Anisha Ghosh, and produced in India using fair trade principles.  By the way, once you have a cotton curtain in your bath, you’ll never go back to anything plastic-y or polyester again! I promise you’ll love the natural feel.

Lighting -

OK, I’m a sucker for unusual lighting, and the sophisticated whimsy of this pale blue chandelier from Jubilee Collection makes it perfect for our summer bath.  For fun, but more functional lighting, choose this vibrant blue Italian glass sconce from Bellacor.

Accessories -

I love beautiful objects, but I hate clutter.  Subtle organizing accessories create a clean look in a room that is required to hold  dozens of  little odds and ends.  I especially love the West Elm Apothecary jars.  Pottery Barn has some nice ones too.  I keep hoping, however, that I’ll find a great stash of lidded glass jars at the second hand store… no luck yet!

Toiletries-

Now, of course, we don’t purchase our toiletries to specifically match our bathrooms, but in these cases, you just might want to!  Natural, citrusy soaps, scents and a bubbly foot soak all sound like summer musts! The L’Occitane pot is so pretty that you might want to add it to your apothecary jar collection when you’re done!

Window Treatments-

If you have a prominent window in your bath, you’ll want to think about window treatments.  We offer window curtains as well as a beaded valance in the Morning Dew print.  Often, we don’t want to get to “matchy” with textiles in our spaces, but again, because bathrooms are smaller, I think you either want to match or go neutral.  A neutral “shabby chic” option is our Ivy Lace sheer curtain.  Especially if you’re going with lots of light colors and a few bright accents, this one’s for you.

Are any of you considering freshening up your bath space this summer?  If so, what ideas do you see that you like?  What other thoughts do you have?  If you do purchase a Saffron Marigold product, let us see how you’ve used it in your home design!  You can send a picture to our Facebook page, or send it along to me.

Next, we’ll be talking curtains again, but this time Kamini will focus on window treatments using Paisley Au Lait, a gorgeous black and white print.  To take a look at our entire Summer Series, just click here!

Miss Frangipani

That print is so cool and would look great in a simple bathroom or even one with blue and white azulejos.
