Ideas for An Exotic Black and Gold Bath

by Heidi on Aug 6, 12

Our Kilim Noir shower curtain is the perfect muse for a bold, dramatic bath.  You can move this print toward an exotic glamourous look – based on the gold medallions, or toward a rich tribal vibe – based on the striking black and red tones.  Either way, you’ll have a stunning, unique bath.  Sourcing accessories for this bath is not as challenging as it might seem from the outset.  Check out the linens and accessories below for some great ideas to get you started.

Coordinating Towels

Towels are such a great accessory – they are absolutely functional, but act as wonderful bits of color to contribute to the palette of your bath.  I suggest deep black or solid blue if you want to push the glamour of Kilim Noir.  These will tie in with the colors perfectly, but will serve to accent them – not compete.

I am a huge fan of Anthropologie’s Perpetual Blooms towels… use these if you want your bath to evoke the exotic.  In this case, all of your bath linens are alive with interest and contribute to an overall scene that is mysterious and alluring.

Mats + Baskets

Bath mats are just another opportunity to add a bit of functional flair to your space.  Harlequin from Ballard Designs is romantic and sophisticated, while Zig Zag from West Elm is vibrant and tribal.   Both are well made and soft to the touch.

Bath baskets – hampers, waste bins and storage pieces – are wonderful for the utilitarian needs of the bath.  I love how the Serena and Lily Senegalese collection gives a subtle nod to the pattern in Kilim Noir, while the West Elm Curved Pieces are noticeably rich in texture, but act as neutrals in the palette.

Accessories + Sensories

The fun really begins when we add final touches of accessories and sensory elements.  There are so many ways you could go here, it’s hard to pick just a few!  I’d almost say, however, that the Pantile Taper Sconce (made from a vintage shingle) is a must have.  What wonderful way to combine a bit of rustic with a bright pop of color!  So cool.  My other pick is from Anthropolgie as well – the fun and funky Zebra Bust.  Baths are a perfect space to introduce a bit of whimsy. :)

Not to be forgotten are the sensual elements that are so wonderful in the bath.  Have a little bottle of high quality essential oil on hand… to drop into the tub, to diffuse, or to rub on the body.  I was just introduced to DoTerra lavender this weekend, and it is truly a treat.  The glow and scent of Cinnamon bark candles from California Candle will emit the perfect deep, spicy “ahh” to this singular bath experience.
