Those of us who love autumn are already starting to note the small changes in the air – cooler night temperatures, mums at the garden shops, even a few leaves are beginning to color. The natural beauty is wonderous by itself, but of course, there’s real fun in bringing this seasonal sense indoors and using it to inspire our homes.
Today, we’ll create a rich, autumnal tablescape using our orange and yellow paisley Indian Summer table linens. Soft, cottony and completely hand printed, these tablecloths, napkins and table runners are the perfect foundation for any fall entertaining. The colors pair perfectly with rich dark walnut and chocolate accessories, and are highlighted by bright seasonal crimson, ochre and orange. You’ll love the bright versatility these fair trade linens offer.

Place Settings
If you’re in the market for new place settings this fall, either of these will be lovely. Tiger’s Eye, from Pier1 will illuminate a fall table with gold-crackle interior and a matte chocolate accent.
If you want something a bit more versatile, Persimmon place settings from Pottery Barn’s Cambria collection work across the seasons. In autumn, the red reads “russet leaves”; in spring, “bright blossoms”. I can even see this color translated as a red, and alongside a muted sage (like our Memories of Shalimar) would be beautiful at Christmas!
Chargers
I imagine that most of you are happy with the place settings you have (I am still using the Pottery Barn white from my wedding registry 15 years ago)! In this case, chargers are a great way to add variety and texture to your table. Since Indian Summer is resplendent with natural hues, chargers that are made of organic materials work best. World Market‘s embossed copper squares or Novica’s mahogany plates are my top picks.
Centerpieces
Who doesn’t love fall decor? As much as I’d like to hang onto summer, I am already looking forward to the smells and colors of the season. The following centerpieces range from challenging and sophisticated to simple and sweet. Both are beautiful! If I were to use the Lemon Branch arrangement, I’d place it on a side table. The Gold Strike roses will connect to Indian Summer from across the room! The pumpkin centerpieces would look best in a grouping, or lined down the center of the table. Which do you like best?
Candles and Lanterns
Once dinner is done, apple pie has been served, and the sun set – it’s time to light candles and settle in for late night conversation. I like World Market‘s Turkish Peach collection. The colors are gorgeous!
In keeping with the natural, organic feel of our Indian Summer evening, I’d hang a few of Boutique de la Mer’s Jute tea light holders at different levels, and enjoy the twinkling night lights.
