Fall Series: The cinnamon and turmeric hues of Spice Route for your bedroom!

by Kamini on Aug 6, 12

While summer was all about paring down, using summery linens and cottons and lightening up your space, Fall is all about getting cozy and cuddly with warm, fuzzy blankets, woolen throws and soft rugs.

Let’s start this series with the Saffron Marigold’s consummate fall print – Spice Route, with colors like cinnamon, turmeric, cranberry and blue all evocative of the gorgeous hues you see out your window in Autumn.

Spice Route features a floral filigree pattern within baroque, lozenge motifs in colors that will warm you just by looking at them.

Quilts, throws and blankets:

Just as in clothing, dressing your bed in Fall is all about layering. Nights vary from cool to cold to downright chilly, and so you have to be prepared for all its various fickle moods. When the temperatures just start to dip, this light to medium weight quilt from the same Spice Route collection will be perfect. Its versatile enough to use as a bedspread, so all you have to do is peel it away and get under it at night…easy!

Do remember, the Spice Route duvet cover can be used with any comforter you are using depending on how cold the night is. And as an added bonus, any of our prints can be made into light comfortable quilts with a cotton lining. All you have to do is place a custom order and specify your requirements!

On a cold blustery night, you need these vintage “frasadas” or hand woven sheep’s wool blankets from Bolivia, from L’aviva, in any one of the stunning colors. The more affordable throws from West Elm are 100% acrylic, which means “easy maintenance”. Use them on the bed, on a chair, on a sofa…wherever you need to stay warm. The handwoven Pecos cotton quilt from Sundance seems tailor made for the Spice Route linens, echoing the same russet, gold, sunset hues in a squared off print.

Spice Route’s twin bedspreads can also double up as comfy throws.

Window treatments:

Spice Route curtains would be perfect for the windows for the summer, but fall calls for something a bit more heavy that will keep out the cold, and lower your electricity bills!!!! These microsuede panels from Walmart are affordable, easy to care for and neutral in color, and should see you through the winter and spring. Coordinating them with the bed linens is a breeze with the Spice Route beaded valance, which will provide not just color, but a bit of fun and pizazz to the plain curtains.

Bedroom seating:

In my opinion, the best fall pastime, is to curl up by the fire with a good book and forget about everything else. If you want to splurge a bit, this wingback chair from Cococozy in a brilliant russet shade will not only envelop you (and hide you from those looking for you :-) ), but probably lull you to sleep too! Blue is a fun complimentary color to add to autumn decor, and this brightly patterned pillow with oranges and blues from Anthropologie, on that wingback chair, will look stunning. Target also sells this simple slipper chair in an autumn inspired print, for a lovely dose of fall color in your bedroom.

Furniture and accessories:

Oranges and reds are usually the colors associated with autumn, but earthy browns, ochres, yellows and greens are as important, not just to balance and harmonize the other colors, but to soothe and calm the eyes after all that riot of color. This rug from Rugs USA will do just that along with highlighting the turmeric accent of the print. The dresser from Overstock in a dark, chestnut wood will add warmth to your bedroom and accented with these colorful knobs from Anthropologie, will look even better!! Alternately, you can update your existing dresser with the knobs for a similar effect!

Engage the senses: Smell and see….

And then of course, for the final treat, surround yourself with objects that will heighten the senses and create the mood. These pot candles from Himalayan Trading Post, will fill the house with a spicy scent. How much more “Autumnal” can it get???

A great idea from Casa Diseno blog - pick some branches off the red maple, the persimmon tree or a berry bush, place them in rustic ceramic ware or a glass vase, and bring the outside fall colors inside.
