One of the beautiful things about block prints is their ability to mix and match well with other block prints. And it is precisely this feature that makes it fun to answer this question we received from Amatul Ali.

“Could you advise when the Ruby Kilim quilted bedspread may be available again. With the bedspread are the pillow shams advisable or would contrasting throws/ european sham be recommended. If the latter which prints from your range or plain colors ( not prints) would you suggest.”

Amatul – You can use any or all three – pillow shams, throws and European shams. If you are looking to create a luxurious, inviting bedding ensemble then layering all three would do it, with the Euro shams going up against the headboard and then the standard shams followed by the throw pillows. For a simpler classic “less fussy” look, I would stay with pillow shams and throw pillows.

Here are three prints within our collection that will work beautifully with Ruby Kilim:

1. The serene calm beauty of our latest launch Vanilla Glacé, will offset the bold drama of Ruby Kilim but still coordinate with the white in Ruby Kilim. While the one is fluid and organic, the other is orderly and geometric, and the combination will create a lovely tension. The little sprinkles of gold in  Vanilla Glacé will add an unexpected glamorous spin.

2. For a stunning pairing, try using Kilim Noir with Paisley au Lait. Both are strikingly beautiful and together will enhance instead of overshadowing one another. Both are geometric, have white and black and really showcase the absolute skill and craftsmanship of block printing.

3. Drama, drama and more drama is what you’ll have by combining these two prints – Ruby Kilim and Kilim Noir. Exotic Turkish inspiration is apparent in both prints where the focus is on smoldering black. The ochre gold  in Kilim Noir adds an luminous touch.

If a lot of mixing and matching overwhelms you, solid color pillow shams in brick, khaki or white will be equally stunning. While white will accentuate the crispness of the print, a deeper color like brick will add a whole new exciting dimension just by virtue of its color. Khaki being a neutral will ground the print and bring a comforting, nurturing vibe to the room.

Here is a testimonial from one of our customers -

Grace from Hadlyme, CT:

I  cannot believe how beautiful my curtains are, I have received them, put them up and I love them. Thank you, Grace

Grace was referring to her Morning Dew curtains. By using the softly textured buttery yellow of her walls as a canvas, she has tapped into the French appeal of the print and accessorized it brilliantly with the wrought iron holder and lush green fern plant. I look at it and am instantly reminded of a French country villa. A coordinating valance completes the old world look.

This is easily one of my favorite prints from our entire collection. Its elegant, regal motifs in teal, blue and orange waltzing across a pale yellow background, make it elegant and stately, suited to both a French country or a Shabby Chic decorating theme.

Its lovely Grace.

We’re often asked for sheeting recommendations for our unique bedspreads and duvets.  It’s a pleasure for us to help you choose something that will perfectly accent your Saffron Marigold piece!  Recently, a customer wondered what we’d recommend for our Maharaja reversible duvet.  (This is a print which is being discontinued, by the way…  you can still pick it up on sale –  if you hurry!)  Maharaja is founded on a rich burgundy ground, and topped with majestic elephants colored in tones of salmon, forest and sage.  The reverse of the duvet is covered in scrolling burgundy vines on a cream ground.

Sage Green

Pick up the hint of sage green seen in Maharaja’s border with this set of organic cotton sheets from Olive and Myrtle.  These sheets will work well if you want to accent floral and tropical notes in your bedroom.

Salmon

The elephants, in a warm, spicy deep pink, are certainly the stand-out accents on our duvet.  Pick up this salmon tone by using a Spice Dot Print sheet from Overstock.  The “dots” add depth, texture and interest in an unobtrusive way.

Finally, if our customer likes a bolder sheet, he may want to choose “Suzani” from Bed Bath & Beyond.  The strong border works perfectly with the colors and motif of Maharaja.  The remainder of these creamy sheets serves as a relaxing neutral in this exotic scenario.

Blue and white – a classic combination that will always succeed at refreshing and energizing a space! That’s exactly what Allison did with Midnight Lotus’s deep blue and white floral table cloth.

Allison from Teaneck, NJ: Dear Saffron Marigold, Thank you so much!!! I have struggled to find a round tablecloth and recently purchased one of yours and it is BEAUTIFUL!!! It pulls my living room/dining room together. Now… what curtains to get?? :) I’m thinking wedding day or the match to the tablecloth. Or the black and white…

I’m telling everyone I know about your beautiful high-quality products (I’m in marketing!) — I wish you the best of luck and can’t wait to buy more. Best, Allison

The floral print works well in this room with the garden space beyond and blurs the line between the inside and the outside. The glass block wall behind, which reminds me of an Asian shoji screen, enhances the spiritual Zen appeal of the lotus motif.

Use Midnight Lotus if either blue or white is your main color theme. It will renew, refresh and add a new dimension to your room.

Thank you Allison. We love the way the room looks.

Read on to see how these Turkish Kilim inspired linens add a rich, sumptuous vibe to this bedroom.

Jessica from Bridgeport, CT:

“Hi, I wanted to write you to let you know how much I love your linens. They add a unique, inviting look to my apartment. I definitely plan on ordering more in the future and have recommended your site to others. Thank you!

I am sending photos of the curtains I have bought. I chose the Ruby Kilim curtains because of their deep red color. I just moved into a new apartment and I am trying to go for a Moroccan themed bedroom. I have a sliding glass door that leads out to my deck, that had ugly window panels on them. The Ruby Kilim curtains look way better than the window panels. They make my bedroom much more inviting. I love them!”

Jessica used longer length curtains so they puddle on the floor for a stylish opulent look.  Even with the light streaming in from behind, the ruby red, deep cream and grey-black colors add deep color and drama. I’d love to have a bedroom as exotic as this.

Ruby Kilim is a bold, dramatic, geometrical design that draws its inspiration from the famed Turkish Kilim rugs. Its incredibly rich palette of ruby red, deep cream and grey-black, contrasts handsomely to a striking and vivid effect.

It’s always fabulous to see how our linens are being used by our customers, so keep those pictures coming. Do leave us a comment to let us know what you thought of Jessica’s bedroom.

At Saffron Marigold we love to see how customers use our linens. This is how one of our customers has used Spice Route:

Rita from Fraser, MI, used the shower curtain in a small bath that she felt needed a little personality. In her words

The fabric is lovely and the colors are beautiful! Thank you again for the quality — it is a pleasure to use this every day.

As you can see from the picture she so generously shared with us, the bathroom has come alive with the shower curtain. Paired with gorgeous global ethnic accessories, the vibe is both chic and earthy at the same time. The dark brown of the frame and the tissue box pick up the brown in the print, and that art work is tailor made for the print. Wow, Rita – you have definitely added warm personality to the bath! Its beautiful!

Spice Route shower curtain

Spice Route – a print that is an explosion of wondrous colors evoking voyages of spice traders and the famed Silk Route. Cinnamon brown, turmeric yellow and imperial blue all jostle for attention within the floral filigree pattern, set against a deep red background.

Thank you Rita, for sending in your photos that we can share with others. Its thrilling for us to see what you have done with Spice Route.

Leave us a comment below letting us know what you think of the bathroom makeover. We’d love to know.
